On this day, fourteen years ago, Cady Heron asked Aaron Samuels what day it was… Happy Wednesday beauties!!
Although I’m not wearing pink today, I did just unfreeze my spray tan membership down the street and get a spray tan. I feel GREAT… Almost as good as I’m sure Cady felt when Aaron talked to her.
NOW — I figured I would just give some y’all some tips and tricks to maintaining spray tans… Kimmy {my mama} doesn’t allow me to get into a bed cause of cancer and I know how hard it is to tan during the months coming up cause of the cold and the rain and whatnot.
I know some people are so worried to get spray tans because they don’t wanna look like an oompa loompa… TRUST ME… I’ve been there {the worrying part haha not the orange part}, so before you get a spray, be sure to look into the salon. When I would go in California, I was WAYYYYY too scared to get into a machine, so for years {before dance competitions // performances}, I would go to a woman’s house for her to manually spray me… butt naked.
No, I don’t think it’s awk {I knew y'all were going to ask}. She is a licensed esthetician; She does waxing, hair, spray tans, and all that good stuff.
Once I got to Texas, I felt weird being albino. I know I’m not actually albino BUTTT I felt so much better when I was tan, so again, I found a place where I would have a woman manually spray tan me. I’ll be honest… Spray tans are NOT cheap {usually}… Especially if they’re done by a person and not a machine. I would get one spray for $45 and then I would still have to tip. It’s a bit much to keep up SOOOO I only got them for formals.
Then… I met one of my best friends {shout out Megan Zanette} who was ALWAYS tan and NEVER looked orange. I wanted to know her secret… Palm Beach Tan. They have the option to get a spray and // or a bed membership, and the one that I have allows me unlimited sprays a month for $65!!
For people who have asked me what I do, as sprays come in different forms {mine is a clear base}, I do Mystic dark!!
NOW… LET’S GET TO WHAT YOU ALL WANTED TO KNOW….
PREPARING FOR A LASTING SPRAY TAN:
☆ Shave: I’ll be honest with y’all… If you have hair doing out of yah and your skin is pretty dry, it’s possible for the tan to outline your follicles. Other people won’t be able to notice them, and you may not really care, BUT I’m super picky and I notice them on myself.
☆ Loofa: I am not kidding when I say exfoliating your skin will help the spray stick to you because it gets rid of the top layer {all the dead skin} and your spray tan can develop on new skin.
☆ NO OIL: Make sure your skin is rid of any body oils or moisturizers because they put a film on your skin, making it harder for a spray tan to stick.
☆ Loose clothes: Your tan wants to breathe. In order to dry properly without certain regions being uneven, it’s best to not wear a bra, wear a big baggy shirt {XL sorority shirts for the win}, lulu shorts, or sweatpants. I’ve worn leggings after a spray and nothing’s really happened, but I’ve also put a sports bra on right after and I was left with “tan lines.” Sometimes it’s a hit or miss when it comes to clothes affecting my tans. ALSO, if you’re not getting a clear based tan, be sure to wear darker clothes because your tan will rub off on your clothes {although it won’t stain}.
MAKING A SPRAY TAN LAST:
☆ Moisturize: Taking warm showers dries out your skin {mind blown} which also means, if you get a spray tan then it’s possible for you to look like a lizard… Trust me, I used to be THE WORST at moisturizing after a shower // bubble bath but it would always make my tans look cracked. By putting lotion on your entire body, you’re not only keeping your skin healthy, you’re maintaining an even tan.
☆ Don’t scrub: Don’t loofa your body // scrape your skin with a towel to dry off your body unless you’re planning on getting another spray tan soon.
☆ Wait: Allow your tan to set for about eight hours… MINIMUM {depending on the tan}… At least that’s what I like to do. When I can, I like to go later in the evening to get my tan so that I can go home, cook dinner, clean my place, and sleep while my tan sets {a clear base will not turn your sheets orange and a bronzed base won’t stain your sheets}.
Now — I hope that kinda helps all you bronzed babes out there!! Know that tans may have different effect on different people. While you may feel pasty right after and your friend who gets the same one looks like a tanned African goddess, you have different skin types; therefore, the spray tan will set differently.
