Optimum Sleep... CHECK!!


Hello hello!!

Of course I have procrastinated writing this post until now {12:04 pm} BUTTTTT I want to make sure I get it posted by 1:00 {again, TX time} so I want to apologize in advance for any spelling // grammar mistakes.

Anyways… A LOT of y’all have been wondering about how I fall asleep so quickly, and let me tell you, it almost took me TWENTY THREE YEARS to master. I owe it all to my Spotify and my more recent essential oil obsession, so now I’m here to spill the beans and share my secrets with you.

Let me first begin by saying sleep is SOOOOO important. To keep it simple:

☆ sleep helps maintain your health and immune system

☆ lack of sleep can make you fat… and I am sure nobody wants that

☆ sleep improves concentration and productivity

☆ etc.

Let me also begin by saying, it’s also important to sleep 8 hours BUT I know that sometimes that can be hard… Trust me… College RUINED my sleep schedule!! It’s also bad to get more than 9 to 10 hours of sleep and that can result in poor sleep quality.

Now — Let me be honest with you {and I know this sounds kinda bad}. A lot of the time in college, I relied heavily on NyQuil to actually put me to sleep. For me, Melatonin didn’t do it so a medication was my go to; HOWEVER, since I have noticed the differences in the quality of my sleep, due to what I am doing now, I have not relied in NyQuil for who knows how long…

Some of you may find my nightly routine SOOO weird, so judge me if you want to. My dad stayed at my place and laughed soooo hard at me and told me things like “wow, maybe we do need to find you a man” {which is something he has NEVER said to me before} and “you are so strange for doing this,” BUT I didn’t hear a peep out of him and he was asleep within moments too... AND HE WAS SLEEPING ON A BLOWUP MATTRESS WITH A BAD BACK AND NECK!!

{okay I’m done bragging about how great this is}

So this may be a given, BUT if you’re one of those people who sleeps with their phone {and trust me, I am TOTALLY guilty of that too}, you’re going to have to learn to put it on “Do Not Disturb” and get that away from you!! That light on your phone {even if its on power save mode or night shift mode} restrains the production of melatonin. If you don’t know what melatonin is, it’s the hormone that controls your sleep // wake cycle.

NOW BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR PHONE COMPLETELY DOWN AND OUT OF SIGHT turn on a form of white noise that you can tolerate. Tatiana {one of my best friends y’all have probably heard about many times} is the one that first made me do that and I thought she was INSANE, but the only insane thing was the amount of sleep I was able to get. I have tested out SOOOOO many white noise sounds and rain noises and decided to make a Spotify playlist that I just will put on repeat because white noise helps drowns out any sounds that may prevent you from falling asleep or randomly waking up throughout the night.

Now that my phone’s “out of sight and out of mind” {yes, the saying that’s meant for guys works the same for phones}, I spray my entire room with Focus. The spray is made with eucalyptus, tea, and other essential oils as a form of aromatherapy for your pillow. Now, I realize the bottle says it’s pillow mist BUT I like to put something else on my pillow so this just gives my room a nice and soothing smell. If this interests you, I bought the spray at Bath and Body Works but you can buy it online too if you feel like being lazy {and something I would’ve done but I wanted to smell it first}.

One more thing I love to do is use pure eucalyptus oil {which I bought at Central Market} but you can also get it on Amazon and I rub a very slight amount on my teddy bear {judge me if you want BUT my bear is the fluffiest thing ever and I am obsessed} and I rub some on my pillows. The smell of eucalyptus is used to help put someone in a deep relaxation, and for me this REALLY helps and I have grown to absolutely love the smell.

I know this all may sound so crazy to y’all and you’re thinking “there is no way I am going to do all that,” but just know that it ACTUALLY does help. I sleep like a freakin baby now and I promise you, I swear by it and do it too {so it’s not something I’m just saying cause it would be funny to see y’all try it out too}.
