Balayage Haircare, Tips, and Tricks

OKAY!!

If you didn’t keep up with my insta-g story from yesterday which just gave you ALL the great angles of my face {up the nose… double chin… you name it} you may not know this BUTTTTT I got a balayage {I can update this post and include the story if y’all really want me to}!!

Here’s a lil backstory for y’all — Growing up, my mama would NEVER let me put anything in my hair {dye wise}. When everybody got highlights, I had nothing. When everybody in the dance studio was doing a streak of color in their hair {red, pink, blue, etc}, my hair remained the same {keep in mind I think this was a middle school trend}. When extensions became a huge thing {which I still think they are kinda a big deal due to Hair By Chrissy and everybody wanting thick boho braids}, I had to suck up my shoulder length thin hair. Balayage {I’m almost positive} became a fad my junior or senior year of high school, and still I wasn’t allowed to do anything.

I loved that my mom cared about me remaining “natural” because she had taken me to a MULTITUDE of her hair appointments in hopes of getting my natural color… but it never turned out the way she wanted. That being said I was starting to freak out when I actually started getting my hair done yesterday because what if I didn't like it?!

Positive thought though {for my past hair history}: I wasn’t having to damage my hair {anymore than I already did by putting it in tight high ponies or curling it for beach waves} AND I wasn’t having to spend tons to maintain it.

Fast forward, rewind, and stop at yesterday morning.

Because I have been working my booty off these past few months, I have accumulated enough moola to treat myself to what I had wanted all these years: A BALAYAGE!!

{and now looking back on it, I regret not making a vlog for y’all… so I apologize}

ANYWAYS — After being on a waitlist for a couple of weeks {after my hair consultation}, I headed to the salon down the street from me: Charlie + Co. Because my mama gets her hair done all the time and it takes HOURS, I had expected mine to take five-ever so I brought my computer and all, but I was so wrong… For a trim AND balayage, I was probably there just under two hours!!

Another thing I didn’t realize was a big deal was the fact that I had never done anything to my hair… My hair was apparently considered “virgin hair” and they were “poppin the cherry with balayage.”

The order of operation:

☆ Arrive at the salon {for my 9:00 appointment}

☆ Bleach layers of hair {with saran wrap dividing the sections and making it look like I had a pretty bridal veil on}

☆ Heat application and wait {with that circulating UFO looking thang going around my head}

☆ Rinse #1

☆ Toner {base gloss} and wait {with my head just sitting in the rinse bowl}

☆ Rinse #2

☆ Top gloss and conditioner… and wait {by applying the conditioner to the top of my head, it sets my base gloss and keeps it from changing it to the top gloss color}

☆ Rinse #3

☆ Blow dry {aka the FIRST time I got to see the end product of my hair which I am OBSESSED with!!}

☆ Trim {fix up my layers // say see yah later to my split ends // etc}

☆ Curl {with a 1.25 inch barrel}

☆ Take an after photo

To say that I am IN LOVE with my hair would be an understatement!! I absolutely LOVE how my hair turned out and I would absolutely recommend Daniel Permenter to anyone and everyone… I have already given his info to a NUMBER of people in Dallas and Fort Worth!!

It’s crazy how much of an affect my insta-g story of the step by step process had!!

NOW — For tips and tricks… Being a “hair virgin” you best believe that I full on questioned him about anything and everything.

PSSSSTTTTTTTT:

☆ Do NOT use shampoo or conditioner that are meant to revitalize your scalp or have sulfate in them {go sulfate free!!}. Use gentle products {i.e. Sachajuan, Kevin Murphy, ORIBE, etc.} that are meant to hydrate your hair rather than suck nutrients out of your hair.

☆ To keep your hair looking healthy and shiny {and have the effect of no split ends} use a non silicone based oil {preferably Moroccan oil}.

☆ If you’re getting balayage, you only have to go two to three times a year!! DID YOU HEAR THAT?!? You don’t have to go in every month like everybody who gets their roots colored!! If you’re going to get a balayage twice a year then stick to Summer and Spring BUT if you want that third time then you can do Fall {summer will be the lightest for balayage, and then as the seasons progress the extreme will decrease}.

So, if you are in Dallas or Fort Worth {or willing to fly in from another state to get your hair done… which I honestly think I may do once I leave Texas} and you are wanting to book an appointment, CLICK HERE!!

Now I gotta go because I am heading to Barry’s Bootcamp with Tati and then heading to my apartment to get ready for my dad and din… OH… ANDDDDD…

GO FROGS!! {TCU plays SMU in a few hours for those of you who didn’t know}

xoxo V
