The Realities of Applying for Jobs

Guys… I have come to the conclusion that reality is not as simple as the Kardashians make it seem. Making millions is not simple, applying to jobs and internships is not easy, purchasing your own {organic} food is pretty difficult, and you won’t always be happy with the outcomes or have time for other things you want to do.

Becoming an Instagram famous influencer is pretty unrealistic, unless you have been on the bachelor {or another reality television show}, unless you have won the mega lottery, or unless you are just blessed with a skinny body or exotic look. Airlines won’t pay for your flights, you wont be handed an all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas where you can swim with pigs and sharks, and you won’t receive free packages on the daily {unless they’re Amazon Prime packages your mom sent you, like zit cream or new sheets}.

In our day and age, with technology playing a big role, applying for “real” jobs seems almost unrealistic; however, it’s something we must do.

To this day, I am waiting to hear back from OVER TWENTY companies!! I applied to a variety of internships {considering I have an extra semester so it’s an easier way to be a seasonal employee AND I get credit for school}. The positions I applied for ranged from marketing to public relations to sales and advertising both in big companies {that the majority of you know or have heard of} and small companies. Ultimately, my applications, like myself, have the travel bug and were sent off to Los Angeles and Newport Beach in California, New York, Chicago, and even Dallas and Fort Worth in Texas {because I have my current lease until the last day of July}.

I know I shouldn't be TOO stressed, considering if worse comes to worse I’ll just be “stuck” back home in Los Angeles, but the reality of finances and budgeting are really beginning to stress me out.

Unlike the majority of my friends who have boyfriends and are settling down, I have been single almost my whole life {you’re welcome dad… I’m basically saving you money because you know I’m a gift giver and I have access to the magic Visa}. I am also an extremely independent person, who doesn't accept BS. I have a future in mind and I strive to make that become my reality. Yeah, I ultimately want to settle down and have a house {or two… one on the beach} and children, BUT I want to be able to be financially stable on my own and I want to have the ability to support myself.

With that, in addition to attempting to sell some of my lil creations and do photography {as seen in the top tab}, I would LOVE to apply my determination and creative mind to another company.

I would have NEVER thought that some companies wouldn’t email me back. I have always thought that “communication is key,” and that every company should believe in strong communication. Shouldn't that be the case? For some applications and emails I have sent out, it has been days, weeks, and even months since I have received further notice in regards to where I stand in the application process, and I guess that is just the reality. When you have high expectations, you will be disappointed a lot of the time {trust me}.

I have come to the conclusion that companies are like people. Communication is not always a top priority. Sometimes you wont hear back from a company. Sometimes you will be denied a position that you think you are overqualified for. Sometimes you will doubt yourself in the process. You must realize though that everything happens for a reason. Who knows… Maybe an opportunity will pop up out of nowhere? Just NEVER give up on yourself.

xoxo V
