She's a Tourist

Hi everybody!! So I realize it has ALMOST been a month since my last post, so I sincerely apologize… I have been super busy with sorority stuff, figuring out my upcoming school year plans {cause I am still planning on switching my major to journalism and public relations with a minor in business}, working out, working for my aunt in the valley, etc…

This past week was amazing though and I figured I should just fill everybody in. Usually when I am home during some sort of break {aka summer} I just stick to staying home or occasionally going to the beach. I NEVER really get to be a tourist in my own town, but hey thats what I get to do when friends visit and it is OH SO FUN!! On June 11th, I woke up early {and many of you may know I am NOT a morning person} and picked up one of my best friends from the airport. To fill you in: I do have friends but the majority of them are from different states OR over an hour drive away {shoutout to LA traffic}. Lauren is the one who visited!! My H- Town {Houston, Texas} babe who I have been friends with since freshman year of college… We are ALWAYS busy bodies when we’re together.

Here is our {almost} week we had together:

June 11th: Woke up early. Sat in typical LA traffic in order to make it to LAX in time to pick up Lauren. Headed to Abbot Kinney in which we walked around, ate at Kreation {which has AMAZING avocado bread}, walked around the Venice flea market in the park, and bought a couple of goodies. Drove to Venice Beach Board walk in which we paid a dumb amount of money in order to park in a protected area. Walked up and down the boardwalk a multitude of times {for our daily exercise of course…}, got henna tattoos, and met some strange dudes. We met a guy who was nineteen who was taken off the streets by another man who claimed to be a famous surfer {I asked my brother and his friends because they're avid surfers and they had no idea who he was}. The boy then asked to take us out to bars {AT NINETEEN!!}, stay at the dudes house which just so happened to be Ronald Reagan’s old house {or so he said}, and then asked Lauren on a date while the man asked me if my mama was hot and single. Once we were done at Venice, we decided to head to Malibu in which we got Sunlife smoothies and just sat on the beach to talk about life for a couple hours. The day went by SOOO quickly because before we knew it, we were heading to din and then home.

June 12th: Sunday’s in LA mean FLEA MARKET!! Our original plan was to wake up decently early; however, being typical twenty year olds and going to bed late, we got a late start. We headed down to the Melrose area in which we filled up on !!!!GLUTEN FREE DONUTS!!!!, tea, and coffee. That was what we considered our breakfast, and then we were off to the Melrose Flea Market… The flea market is SUCH a fun place to wander and look for little hidden treasures and that’s just what we did. So many places had cute vintage shirts, old leather belts, intriguing handmade jewelry or crafts, etc… Everything was so unique and we both walked out with a couple goodies of our own!! Because we were in the area, you sure guessed it, we went to that #basic pink wall and took touristy pictures. It was a MAD HOUSE!! SOOOO many people go there from all over just to get a picture with a pink background; the store even has a security guard who has to look over all that is going on at the wall!! OH and all while this was going on, it was gay pride weekend in LA so the traffic was INSANE, but we eventually made it home in time to relax at the pool and then barbecue with my fambam.

June 13th: Picture this… Driving with all the windows down, sunroof open, Starbucks in hand, and the weather fluctuating between 68 and 80 degrees… Sounds like perfection doesn't it? Well it was, and the views from the drive were even more amazing. We had a decently early morning in which we packed up to leave for the beach up north in Morro Bay. On our way we stopped in Santa Barbara for brunch and then continued the drive through the beautiful mountains. It was so nice and absolutely perfect. The music blaring, wind blowing our hair, and sun beating down on our heads. The drive didn't even feel like three hours {but it was}, and once we made it to Morro Bay beach, we were reconnected with one of my friends I haven't seen in about a year. We got to hang out and walk around the area to explore a little bit. We went in the ocean {although Lauren only went in to her knees lol} and it was FREEZING, walked into town to find food, and then went on a hike where we had the MOST AMAZING view on the water. On our way back home, we stopped at a restaurant for sushi take out and then stopped in Santa Barbara once more to deliver cookies to a friend and watch a little bit of the office. What we though was going to be an early{ish} night didn't end up happening BUT the adventures and time together were well worth it. We were asleep by 2am and waking up in just a few short hours to head out to Disneyland!!

June 14th: The day we got to be lil nuggets {with long legs} again!! This is the day we built up to… The day where we could wear black and red sparkly ears in public and nobody would judge… The day where we could add to our pin collection!! We woke up pretty bright eyed and bushy tailed having only gotten about five hours of sleep, got ready in our Disneyland attire, and were on our way!! We stopped at Starbucks in which everybody was getting really excited for us and our day at Disney {we think the sparkly ears gave them a hint} and we arrived at Disneyland in a matter of no time. We have pictures as proof from an amazing day/ night in the park if you don’t believe me when I say the day was MAGICAL!! We were able to get on a multitude of rides, we got quite a number of fast passes, we were given two fast passes for the Tower of Terror just as we were about to wait in the 140 minute line, and we ran from the back of California Adventures to the back of Disneyland within less than twelve minutes. We got to be kiddos again and it was WAY TOO MUCH fun!! There will never be a day where I get too old to attend Disneyland, that is for sure.

June 15th: As you can imagine from our previous day of running ALL OVER, we decided to take hump day very easy. Our legs were tired. My hips were tired. Our feet were sore. We were EXHAUSTED!! Because we slept at my Nanie and Papa’s in Newport, we went to a cafe with them for breakfast in the morning and then were off on our own for the day. We went to Fashion Island to look around {and shop of course}, drove to the Sawdust Festival in Laguna {because it was publicized even though it WASN’T OPEN}, and then drove to Thousand Steps Beach in Laguna where we proceeded to get annihilated by a massive wave while laying way up the shore. Almost all of our stuff made it out okie because we ran like crazy, but my Raybans were nowhere to be found… good think they're replaceable though {wink wink dad!!}. Speaking of dad, my dad was heading down to spend the night at my grandparent’s house so we met up with him and my Nanie and Papa for din back at Newport. The day was nice and relaxing, full of food, the sun, and memories that will last a lifetime.

June 16th: Twas a sad day for the both of us because it was the day Lauren went home… We drove to Malibu for lunch where Lauren talked me into leaving my number on the bill {update: never got a text or call hehe}, and then headed to LA for one last bite of gluten free and vegan donuts. Once we were done debriefing about the trip and eating our yummy dessert for lunch, we headed to the grassy area outside In-N-Out near LAX where we proceeded to take pictures with planes that were landing. Time went by so fast {because obvi we were having fun} and then we had to say our goodbyes.

Until next time, may we never forget the memories and fun times we had!! I had an amazing time being a tourist in my own town because it is not something I typically get to do. There are so many fun adventures, and holes in the wall that have unique foods or goodies. There are so many unexplored areas near me and it is my goal to adventure even more… Therefore, if anybody is reading this blog in the Los Angeles area and wants to explore with me, PLEASE connect with me by clicking the “about/ connect” tab at the top of my blog. I would be so interested in meeting you and going on more adventures!!
