Life is all about risks… okie maybe not “all,” BUT it is always nice to take a little risk every once in a while. This break while attempting to kick my butt into shape, I have been taking one “break day” a week. For those days so far, I have resorted to going to Malibu and hiking with my best friend Tatiana. For our most recent excursion, we decided to find the infamous Jim Morrison cave in one of the beautiful mountains of Malibu. It is said to be permanently closed; however, we were willing to risk it. Anyways, how could a public mountain be “permanently closed?” Granted our MAJOR issue was actually finding the mountain in which held the pink cave full of graffiti… It took us about an hour to get to the beginning of the hike, whereas in reality, it should've taken a maximum of thirty minutes.
The drive to the top of the mountain {well ALMOST the top of the mountain} was stunning. The day was sunny, the sky was clear, and the ocean was glistening blue. We had the most PERFECT view of the natural beauty Malibu brings to California. We parked the car and began our search for the Jim Morrison cave on the trail that was labeled, “Closed to Public Entry. Violators will be Subject to Citation.” Nobody was going to stop us from finding the secluded cave!! Although, when we were walking and making our way in the direction of our destination, we kept trying to think of excuses IN CASE we were to get caught. We made our way through brush, up and down large sandstone structures, passed an abandoned and rusted car that was covered in dirt and graffiti, up more sandstone boulders, and then through another small pathway that lead to the cave.
The view from the cave was amazing!! The art all over the walls were so expressive, and we were able to find the carved skull that rumors claim Jim Morrison carved himself into the stone while he hung out to write music. We spent quite some time in the cave, analyzing the artwork and just talking about life. It was nice getting away from the reality of things and really just having time with my best friend before she leaves on Monday for summer school back in Texas. After maybe an hour or two of us being in the cave {and yes we set a timer on my phone in order to get cute pictures}, we finally headed back to the car to head to Sunlife and home.
It was a quality day, and without us willing to take a risk to go on the trail that was marked closed, we probably would have run into many people and not have time to just debrief about life. We were able to experience something that others may not have the opportunity to experience. We were able to disconnect from the real world for a while and praise that there was no cell service. We were able to see that God created such an amazing world that is full of unexplored areas just waiting to be explored.
