Give Me a Break

Well… I can’t believe my week in paradise is officially over with, let alone my entire winter break. I would have to say it was one of the greatest breaks I have ever had, filled with friends, family, laughter, tears, popped champagne bottles, sun kissed skin, etc… I went into winter {the week before Christmas} completely open; not having any other plans except for Christmas day and of course my family’s week vacation in Hawaii.

Leading up to Christmas, I figured I would be the one to run around with my mama like a crazy chicken with its head cut off, doing last minute shopping for everybody, but NOPE… I only had to go to the mall maybe two times and it was for literally one item both trips. We went as a family to the Queen Mary {the ship in Orange County} a couple of days before Christmas for a night. We went to the Ice Kingdom, went sledding on fake snow, did carnival rides, and went on the scariest ghost tour of the boat’s hotel {and yes, I still held my mom’s hand}. The day after we went home was Christmas Eve, and this year was different because our cousins moved, so this year we decided to celebrate at my nana and grandpa’s {my mama’s parent’s} house. It was a night full of cooking, yummy food, and laughter as a result to boys vs. girls charades… GIRLS WON!! Then came Christmas: woke up at 8ish, opened gifts from santa and the family, got all dolled up, headed to Newport to celebrate with my dad’s side of the family and have a MASSIVE brunch, then stripped down to our pajamas to celebrate with my mama’s side of the family and have dinner and do secret santa. It was a successful Christmas, and I could NOT be any more thankful for all of the people in my life up to this point and for all that they have blessed me with.

After Christmas, it is onto the next one: New Years. Never have I ever been to a party on New Years Eve, and never have I really felt the need to attend one. This year was different. The guy I was talking to {for the past eight months} was driving up to spend that weekend with me… I felt like I needed to do something super fun, yet we only ended up watching Peter Pan, but I will get to that later. He arrived the day of New Years Eve, so in preparation {and me wanting to say bye to my best friend before she had to leave for college}, I went to a yummy acai bowl place that was new to my neighborhood called Kreation. We talked and I told her all the plans. He arrived at around two, in which we did the family introductions, walked the dogs, and then headed out to see Star Wars. When we got home three hours later, we watched football with my dad and then ate dinner, not ending until like 10ish. As our way to “PARTAYYY” for New Years, we then just watched Pan and cuddled up until midnight, and yes I got my first New Years kiss. The next morning we were up and active: ate breakfast, went to Malibu to walk and hangout at the beach, get Sunlife, come home to watch some football, get din with my fambam, go MB2 car racing, and ending the day with cosmic bowling. On his last day in Westlake, we woke up in time for me to make everybody breakfast and then headed out onto the boat until we had to come home to cheer on TCU at the Alamo Bowl. After the game, he was gone… and I didn't realize that it was gone until we met again until we FaceTimed that night and came to that conclusion.

Luckily, as a little mind easer, I headed to the Big Island {Hawaii} the very next morning. The part week was full of gorgeous sunsets, about twelve too many pina coladas and lava flows, pineapple, and sunburns. I got to spend quality time with my family, read on the beach, workout with the most PERFECT view, get treated to WAYYY overpriced food, and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean. Writing this blog entry tears me apart because I'm currently thousands of feet in the air on my way home to California, just to pack up again and head to Texas.

Now it is back to reality… Back to me venting to my advisor about how hard my business major is and wanting to change it. Back to paying for my own groceries. Back to the stress of homework and exams. Back to figuring out what I am going to do for spring break. But most importantly, back to my friends, my home away from home, and to new memories that will be made.

ps: keep your eyes open for a video that will be uploaded of my trip to Hawaii!!
