I went into summer with absolutely nothing planned. I figured this summer was going to go by sooooo slowly, and that I would have nothing to do. The first week was pretty slow because none of my friends were home and all I had to do was dog sit from the crack of dawn until mid afternoon. Because this was the schedule I was on for the first four weeks of my summer, and my school is on break earlier than many schools, I resorted to dog sitting, Netflix, and going to the gym. Once those four weeks were over, I was clueless and had no idea what I was going to do for the rest of summer.
I began applying for summer jobs {because summer school didn't work out}. I applied for over nine, however they all said they had already reached full employment for the summer, or they did not accept seasonal workers. When I heard this news, I was devastated, but I had to think positively. I called up one of my friends from Houston, Texas and we planned an entire week for her to visit me; full of fun festivities in mid July. I began hanging out with my friend Brett who was home for the summer {thanks to my threading lady bringing us back together}. I began going to the beach more with my brother. I began a more intensive gym schedule and I began focusing more on reading books than watching Netflix {but don't get me wrong I still watch Netflix, just in the middle of the night}. Ohh and I have a five day, family vacation that is coming up. My schedule started filling up, and just as it reached this limit, I went to go take an aerial class and got offered a job at the old studio I used to dance at.
I couldn't say no, so I took the job and its been CRAZY busy. We've been getting ready for the show which is tomorrow… holy cow did it come fast. I have been working since Tuesday, starting at nine in the morning in Agoura and not leaving until seven{ish}. I have been WAYYY too tired to even watch Netflix, and that’s even hard for me to say. I have been editing and formatting music, lugging props around the stage, running errands, etc… If I had to sum up my experience thus far in one word, it would be HECTIC!!
It has been such a learning experience so far and has really opened up my eyes to the real world. There are girls that are four years old who have iPhones… FOUR YEARS OLD. Also it’s crazy seeing how much goes on behind the scenes. I never really gave much thought into it because I only really thought about the music editing, lighting, and staging. Now that I am on the other side of it all, I realize how insane it all is and how one must stay on a direct schedule or everything will be a hot mess. I have learned how to work a ton of electronics {yeahh… there is some technology my generation doesn't know how to work} and I would have to say my biggest thing would be tolerating dance moms and nannies. I had the opportunity to see first hand the rudeness and impatience of some people. It is completely MIND BLOWING!!
After the show is over, I am off of work for a week and then I will be working part time at Talent Lab. I will be working Mondays through Thursdays and I will hopefully be getting back to dance and aerial.
By the end of summer, I hope to have finished at least three books, gotten more in shape, have a natural tan {so I do not have to rely on a spray tan for recruitment}, and spent more time with my family. Being extremely busy, it feels as though my summer has gone by in a blink of an eye and I will be back in Texas before I know it.
