Mardi Party

Wow oh wow… When it comes to New Orleans, I don't even know where to begin, other than when people say “you only live once,” my new saying will be “you only NOLA once.”

Louisiana is only a drive away from Texas, so on Friday afternoon {so that Katie could go to class} we decided to embark. Not expecting to hit traffic TOO bad, we wound up in the car for almost eleven dang hours. While the majority of the three passengers slept the entirety of the drive, I drove until dark until we FINALLY arrived at the Intercontinental {which we got such a good price at}.

After eating nothing but two Starbucks drinks {and coffee cake… oops}, we checked into the hotel, decorated the room with beads I had bought off Amazon and some other things Tatiana and I had bought at Party City, and then we headed to the lobby where we went for dinner. The first thing we all put an order in for was one of the infamous New Orleans drinks: the Hurricane. Let me tell you though, those things are DANGEROUS!! I have no idea what is in them but they are delicious and taste exactly like candy.

Following dinner, we decided to head out the Bourbon Street, which is QUITE the experience… There are people one, two, and even three balconies up yelling at people to take their tops off and flash them. Beads are being chucked at people from all directions {and those freakin hurt if they unexpectedly hit you}. To say the least though, I saw some things that can never be unseen. Also, while the Mardi Gras party continues until who knows when, we decided to call it a night around midnight {maybe even before} because we were all so exhausted from a day full of travel.

The next morning, we decided to not sleep in and get going. We ate a long and hardy breakfast at a tourist trap {overpriced and all about the atmosphere} and then we met up with Dani, one of my family friends who goes to school at Tulane and works at Brennan’s. She basically gave us the inside scoop on all the yummy restaurants, the prime locations to watch the parade {which we didn't even do}, and where to go for a fun time. Us five headed back to our hotel, blasted music, and got ready for a lonnnnnngggggg Saturday.

On our way to one of the bars // pubs, we dropped Dani off at work and then met up with some other people we knew. For a couple of hours we bopped around to a couple of bars and hung out with friends, socialized, and drank… I even got the chance to see Faith {one of the girls who I lived with in Barcelona} which was pretty cool!! Around 6 o’clock, Tatiana, Katie, and I decided we wanted to take a quick midday nap, that was supposed to be a maximum of an hour, in order for us to continue the Mardi Gras festivities into the night. Let’s just say, the next time one of us check our phones, we had about eight missed calls from Katie and her boyfriend asking us to meet up with them… Oh, and did I mention it was already 10 pm?! Although, us three did not make it out to the bars again, we did throw on sweats and headed to Cafe Du Monde to get our dose of beignets for the trip.

Sunday morning we were on our way out. We packed up all our luggage, double checked under all the beds and in the drawers, and then made our way back to my car to start our journey back to Dallas. Before officially leaving New Orleans however, we decided to stop new Bourbon Street and get brunch in hopes of holding us over for the majority of the ride {and boy do I wish I remembered the name of the place because it was TERRIBLE}. For a plate for four chicken nuggets and french fries I paid freakin $28 {no tip} because I don't eat fish so I ordered off the kid’s menu {and because my age they couldn't charge me what they would a child}. And to make matters worse, Tatiana chipped her tooth on an oyster!!

Anyways, that’s all for now and I wish I had a ton more exciting trips planned; however, my next post probably wont be until Spring Break… Miami here we come!!

xoxo V
